Mary Yarmovsky Mary Yarmovsky Lazarus Morris Shaffner

Mary (Meri) Yarmovsky was born about 1873 in Zhetl.  She emigrated to England where she married Lazarus Morris Shaffner in December 1903 in Leeds (Yorkshire County).  They had eight children (Goldie, Hyman, Sara, Jane, Rachel, Dorothy, Anne, and Eva).  Descendants surnames include Bloom, Churnin, Dawson, Grace, Morris, Rosenthal, and Wolfe.  After the death of her husband, Mary moved to Canada.

Lazarus Morris Shaffner was shown in the 1901 England Census at age 39 (being born about 1862) with his mother Goldie, age 65.  They lived at 124 North St., Leeds, England.  Lazarus was a general dealer (hardware) with his own business.  Goldie died in April-June 1904 in Leeds.  Lazarus Morris Shaffner died in July-August 1928 in Leeds.

Mary sailed on the S.S. Queen Mary leaving Southampton on 2/4/1939 arriving in New York City on 2/9/1939.  The ship's passenger record indicated that she was 62 and showed her leaving her daughter Goldie Dawson, 23 Belvedere Rd., Alwoodley, Leeds, England enroute to her daughter Sarah Grace, 199 Hamilton Rd., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  It was also shown that she would be visiting her sister Mrs. Donner, 957 Greene Ave., Brooklyn, NY.

A Buffalo NY border crossing record showed Mary Shaffner crossing into Canada.  It showed that she had been in the USA from 2/9/1939 to 2/25/1939 and that she had last resided in Bradford, England.
